TY Parent Update 5

01-March-21

Making the most of TY Online

I hope you will have been following our activities online using our noticeboards and TY twitter account as usual.

There have been alot of activities on for TY students over the last few months. Class engagement was initially great but has started to drop off a bit over the last few weeks. I'm sure you are finding it just as challenging at home to keep them engaged and checking their work and we really appreciate all the motivating and cajoling on your end also!

5th Year

Subject Options are now open on VSWARE and students must choose their 5th year choices before Friday 5th March. Anyone who doesn't have it completed by Friday will be last on subject lists so please don't let the deadline past!!

All information and presentations are here on the school website: OPTIONS INFORMATION

Budget and Second Payment Due

So far, all students have engaged in lots of activities in person before Christmas and we hope to have many more once the schools are open for TYs after Easter. We have had many opportunities for the students while online also with our last group completing the filming module this week. All students have had the chance to engage with the online Poetry Slam workshop, Make Up Artist Tutorial, a Q&A with Neven Maguire and our LIVE cookalong with JP McMahon from Aniar restaurant is happening this week (details and ingredients link below in our noticeboard) Students will receive their TY hoody when we return to school.

budget march 2nd 2021.png

As you can see from our budget we have spent €310 per student to date. We gratefully received the first half of the TY fee from parents in September and as things progressed this year we decided not to get the second installment until after Christmas. We are now asking for that payment of €250 please so we can pay for the activities completed since Christmas and plan and book more activities for when we are back in person. Of course, if we do not get to participate or engage as planned, we will refund any unspent moneys. I will work to provide the best experience for the students and have many ideas for what will work even in Level 5 restrictions. You will receive a Way2Pay text with the payment link this week. Please pay promptly and thank you for your continued support for what we do.

TY Work Experience Opportunities

Many students have used this tie to engage with online or virtual work experience opportunities run by some big firms e.g. engineering/colleges/Arup/DNG/RCSI etc. There is a work experience programme available for every interest, the child just has to find it! I have sourced a few and shared them on the noticeboard below if you want a starting point, engineers Ireland have especially good opportunities for students.
