Coláiste Bhaile Chláir House System

The House System is designed to embody the values and ethos of Coláiste Bhaile Chláir and aims to be an integral part of our school community. The aim is that the House Captains will function as Student Council to create a stronger pupil voice to motivate students and further the community spirit of the school.

House System Objectives:

Our aim is to provide every pupil in each house with the following:

  • a sense of belonging within the school community
  • opportunities to develop social, intellectual, physical and practical skills
  • a sense of achievement both inside and outside of the classroom
  • fun and excitement through competition
  • opportunities for leadership
  • an awareness of individual and collective responsibility

House Organisation

  • Pupils from 1st year to 3rd year are assigned to one of the four houses Yellow, Red, Blue or Green House.
  • Each House will have 6 House Captains which will be a representative from each year group in their house. Each form group will vote for their captain in their SPHE Class.
  • House Captains who will act as representatives for all the students in their house throughout the year by: helping co-ordinate house teams, organise activities and events and represent their house at relevant meetings.

Each house represents the following meaning:

Yellow House: The Yellow House symbolizes optimism and energy. The Yellow House occupants are inquisitive, funny, kind, curious, clever, trusting and display immense loyal beliefs.

Red House: The Red House symbolizes love and courage. The Red House occupants are honest, practical, wise, playful, strong, trusting and display strong moral values.

Blue House: The Blue House symbolizes calm and peace. The Blue House occupants are hard-working, intelligent, witty, creative, thoughtful, good natured, and display great resilience’s strengths.

Green House: The Green House symbolizes growth and health. The Green House occupants are ambitious, logical, humorous, imaginative, generous, compassionate, and display boundless courageous skills.

HOW TO EARN HOUSE POINTS: GUIDELINES AND INFORMATION

Each House is in competition with each other to achieve the highest number of house points at the end of each term and most importantly by the end of the year when there will be prizes.

Regular house point totals will be announced and the end of every term when there will be a house assembly.

Pupils can contribute to their house point totals in a number of ways both in and out of the classroom. All pupils are expected to participate in at least one of the many house events/activities.

  • Merits - Pupils are awarded merits for outstanding effort and achievement:

Earn 5 merits for 1 house point.

  • House Activities - Every term provides at least one house activity organised throughout the year for all houses to enter. These activities are outlined on the school website calendar and will be advertised with further details on how to get involved on the student briefing over the year. These activities are designed to bring each of the houses together to build upon our House System Aims. The houses will be in competition with each other 1st place will earn 10 points

2nd Place will earn 8 points

3rd place will earn 6 points

4th place will earn 4 points

  • Clubs - Pupils can also earn house points for their involvement with clubs inside school. These can be achieved by pupils showing commitment through high attendance, outstanding effort and outstanding achievement. (At the end of each term pupils can ask their teacher in charge of the club they have attended to email housesystemCBC@cbcg.ie)

Earn 1 House Point per student

  • Achievement - Pupils can also earn house points for varying achievements such as: Ceannaireacht Leadership Programme, which promote and reward student’s continual participation/ effort in a certain area of school life/ reflect core values of the school

Earn 5 House Points per Ceannaire Student

  • Attendance – Students who achieve 100% attendance in a term or those showing significant improvement receive a house point, as well as being placed in a draw for a gift voucher.
