Learning Together – (A Teaching and Learning Policy for CBC)
Over the past 2 years we have consulted with teachers, students and parents to develop a common framework for Learning in Coláiste Bhaile Chláir. The work has been led out by Ms Egan.
We have developed 6 Key Principles which are central to our approach to “Building Learning Capacity” within CBC.
They form the focal point for all of our CPD with teachers, students and parents.
While most are already embedded in classroom practice over the next 5 years as part of our Strategic Plan we will continue to embed these right throughout the school.
Introduction
The core guiding principle that lies at the heart of everything we do at Coláiste Bhaile Chláir is to encourage and develop each member of the school community to achieve personal excellence through empowerment.
We believe that this can only be achieved by the entire school community learning together. It is critical that students develop their capacity to learn, both independently and collectively.
We have developed six key approaches to learning that are used consistently and creatively across our community and which, collectively, we refer to as Building Learning Capacity. These approaches are explained in our Teaching and Learning document 'Together we will achieve' which is attached here.
Staff/School 5 Year CPD Plan to Support the embedding of our Learning Together Policy Can be found by clicking this link
This plan is linked to our Strategic Development Goals also and is fully embedded into our School Improvement Plans each year which can be found under the School Plan section of our Website

Termly Feedback Cover Sheets:A Guide for Parents
Each term students complete house exams in certain subjects (depending on CBAs and project workload in each subject). Each Term test has a Feedback Cover sheet. These sheets replace formal written reports in each subject as they give much more in dept information to parents on student progress and give parents the opportunity to act as a Learning Coach for their child. Please Follow the link here for a very useful guide for parents to explore with your son/daughter their progress in each Term test.
Thank you to Leaving Cert students of the class of 2020; Louise Mahoney, Sarah McHale, Rachael Hughes, Lauren and Katelyn McMahon who exemplify what it is to be part of a school community, even after you graduate. In providing the valuable insights and advice that feature through the entirety of this booklet you model a number of our school's key approaches to learning such as building learning habits, student voice, behaviour for learning and coaching.

Together We Will Achieve,
Study Planner and Graphic Organisers WordPDF
It's important to get organised when it comes to study. Plan your time using a monthly or weekly planner to slot in subjects and individual topics so you have clear goals each time you sit down. Plan what you're studying, and when you're studying it. Find what strategy works for you in each subject and use it to revise your notes, reformulate notes in your own words etc. Whether you do this using flashcards or graphic organisers it doesn't matter, once it works for you and helps you study more effectively. But you need to actively do something with the information you’re trying to learn.
Attached are a number or graphic organisers that will help you become more active in your study than just simply highlighting key words (which research tells us is a passive approach unless you do something with the key words your highlight).
